EMAIL: hickschris6@gmail.com

Hi, I’m Chris and I’m the Senior Pastor at Belvidere Heights Baptist Church. I’m primarily responsible for the overall leadership of the church and for the teaching on Sunday. I seek to teach the Scriptures and equip people to reach their God given potential.

BASIC STUFF:

My wife Cheryl and I came to Belvidere in February 2010. We married right out of high school in North Little Rock, Ark. We have two daughters, Crystal and Cheri who are both married. We have two great son-in-laws, Zack and Lucas, and God has blessed us thus far with four grandchildren, Alaina, Alyvia, Alex, and Levi.
My love for the Belvidere Heights community and greater area began when I visited the area to look around after being contacted about the church. What great potential lies within the people in this area.

BIRTHDAY: August 5

EDUCATION: B.A. in Pastoral Ministry from Williams Baptist College; Masters of Divinity from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary

INTERESTS AND FAVORITES:

  • Places – I enjoy going to Florida and the white sand beaches, going on mission trips anywhere, and being anyplace with my family.
  • Books/Audio – Anything on Leadership, Pastoral Ministry, or good commentaries on passages of Scripture. I like to listen to Adrian Rogers, Charles Stanley, and Tony Evans.
  • TV/Movies – I don't really watch a lot of current TV shows, just some of the oldies like I Love Lucy, I Dream of Jeannie, Mash, and the old Bugs Bunny cartoons. I enjoy action, war, and James Bond movies.
  • Music (What’s on your iPod) – I listen to Chris Tomlin, and a lot of contemporary Christian music, as well as some classic rock.
  • Sports Team – I love all kinds of sports. My favorites are the Arkansas Razorbacks, Dallas Cowboys, and Kansas City Royal!
  • Hobbies – Golf, Hunting, Travel
  • Life Verse – My life verse is the first verse my mother taught me as a child. Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.” John 14:6 This verse has carried me through my life and inspires me to share this truth with others.
  • Enjoy most about ministry – I enjoy seeing people find purpose and meaning in their life through a growing relationship with God through Jesus Christ.

Youth Pastor

Steven Graves

Hello, I’m Steven and I’m the Youth Pastor at Belvidere Heights Baptist Church. I’m primarily responsible for the leadership of the Reflect Student Ministry which is ages 11-18. It is my desire that the youth learn about God, and to trust God in all that they do.

Basic Stuff:

I was born on October 17, 1984 to Anthony & Desiree Graves. I was raised in the midtown area of Kansas City, MO by my grandmother Marva Saunders (Sugar Mama) who taught me to love God with all my heart. My wife Terri and I, as well as our children were called to serve at Belvidere in 2015. Prior to that, we were both lifetime members and served in various ministries at Pleasant Green Baptist Church, KCKS. We have 2 children, Tyler and Steven who both are very intelligent, energetic, and talented.

Birthday: October 17

Education: Northeast High School, KCMO; Current Student at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary

Interest and Favorites:

  • Something Cool About Me – I am a Fire Fighter with the Kansas City Missouri Fire Department. But another cool thing is that from 1999-2010 I was a gospel Hip-Hop artist know as Supreme “the gospel rapper”.
  • Places – I love going to the East Coast because there are so many cities and places to visit. My favorite is Hilton Head, South Carolina.
  • Books/Audio – I love books that talk about God, Pastoral Leadership, as well as books that will make me laugh.
  • TV/Movies – I LOVE TO WATCH ESPN, I could sit and watch it all day even though they play the same thing over and over for hours at a time, LOL. BUT, my favorite movies of all time are The Cat In The Hat (Original Cartoon), and Catch Me If You Can.
  • Music – I love gospel hip-hop, worship songs, and jazz. I am a huge fan of Tasha Cobbs, Sauce Remix, Chris Lee, and KB.
  • Sports Team – LETS GO ROYALS, LETS GO (CLAP CLAP); and the home of the CHIEFS. I am a big fan of our hometown teams, and sometimes I turn my hats inside out because I’m mad at them for messing up.
  • Hobbies – Media, Music, Singing (when I’m alone).
  • Life Verse – My life and ministry verse is 1 Timothy 6:11 which says “But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness.” I love this verse because it challenges as well as keeps me accountable as I lead people to God. There are so many distractions in the world today. But like Timothy, I am to flee (RUN) from anything that is not of God.
  • Enjoy Most About Ministry – I love being a blessing to people, which is what makes ministry fulfilling. I am so excited about what God is doing in my life and ministry as I lead the Reflect Student Ministry of the Belvidere Heights Baptist Church.

BASIC STUFF:

I live in Peculiar, Missouri. We have been members of BHBC since 1963, leaving for a couple of years to live in Illinois. My husband Jim completed his Civil Service retirement at Scott Air Force Base there and we returned and relocated in Grandview in 1981. We immediately rejoined BHBC.  We have four children, Paula married to Rick, Gordon married to Shirley, and Ronald married to Diana. Mark is single and lives with us at home. We have seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren and enjoy the huge family gatherings for holidays, birthdays, and other special days.

BIRTHDAY: April 7

EDUCATION: Business courses at Business Preparatory in Wichita, KS, graduated and obtained my first job in a financial institution. Attended community colleges here in the Kansas City area and Highland, Illinois.

INTERESTS & FAVORITES:

  • Places - I enjoy our two or three trips to Branson each year and we know all the good shows and restaurants. We’ve attended several spiritual retreats there the past few years. I spend a lot of time listening to the radio and hear great sermons from Chuck Swindoll, Tony Evans, Adrian Rogers, Charles Stanley and others.
  • Books/Audio - I read about anything I can get my hands on  - the library is on the left side of my recliner!
  • TV/Movies - I love to watch detective shows like CSI and have enjoyed the current series 24. I also watch news channels and biographies and get involved in some of the game shows, especially The Wheel of Fortune.
  • Music - I love all kinds of music – contemporary and especially gospel. The Gaithers are high on my list of favorite group singers. The late Anthony Burger who played for the Gaithers is my favorite pianist. He has been my inspiration through the years and I’ve was fortunate to meet him personally at one of his concerts. I have all his arrangements and CDs. Andy Williams, Josh Groban are high on my list as performers. There are many others!
  • Sports - My love for sports centers around our grandson Trevor who has proven himself in basketball, baseball, and football.
  • Life Verse: “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” Philippians 4:13. This verse keeps coming back to me when I have feelings of inadequacy.
  • Enjoy most about ministry - I’ve enjoyed being involved in the Children’s Ministry in the churches I’ve attended through the years in Kansas, Illinois and here in Missouri. It has been a joy working with children and seeing them grow up in the Lord and serve as leaders in other churches. My position in the church office has been a blessing -- getting to know the people on a personal basis. Having been a member for such a long time has given me the advantage of knowing the complete history of the church and the families who have been members.
